We had decided quite spontaneously to spend a few days in Lembongan because the waves in Bali were getting bigger, and we would have hardly had any chance to surf there anyway. Room booked, bags packed, and off we went!
On Monday morning, we rode our moped with our surfboards and each with a backpack to the harbor in Sanur to catch the first ferry of the day. However, when we arrived, our host informed us that there had been a mix-up with the booking and he wouldn’t have a place available until Tuesday. No problem, we quickly found a new accommodation for the night, which fortunately worked out.
After a cozy coffee and breakfast at “Mushroom Espresso,” we brought our things to the room and went straight out to surf. Unfortunately, the water was very shallow and the right-hand waves were quite difficult, so I got thrown around a few times. When the reef hit me hard, I decided to call it a day. Johannes had better luck and caught some good waves. For lunch, we went directly to “Nilas Warung” on the beach and watched the other surfers for a bit. Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing – the fish was dry and the Nasi Goreng wasn’t really “Goreng.”
Back in the room, Johannes treated my wounds and then we had an extended nap (at 5 PM, haha). For dinner, we went to “Soka Warung” – they serve the best Pisang Goreng!
The next day, Johannes went surfing early in the morning and was actually quite satisfied afterward, haha. I took the time to knit, enjoy the peace, and have Banana Pancakes with a fantastic view of the seaweed farms for breakfast.
After we moved to the other side of the island (we had been staying at the end of Jalan Jungutbatu), we went to “Let’s Bake - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner” for a Poké Bowl and a coffee. There, we spent a cozy afternoon reading and knitting.
For dinner, we got some food from “Depur Kecil Lembongan” and enjoyed it on the beach while watching the sun set behind the clouds.
The next morning, after three months, we finally went for a morning walk – without 100 mopeds around us! Breakfast was at “Surya Coffee Shop,” where the coffee was also quite good. We surfed together at noon, and even though the waves weren’t particularly big, it was still fun.
Afterward, we went to “Nook” for some fish, and in the evening, we had a snack at “The Blue Yogi Beach Restaurant” on the beach with a sunset view.
The next highlight was surfing at 9:30 a.m. So, we had breakfast at “Surya Coffee,” just like the day before, and then went surfing. For a boost, we had “Koa Donuts,” and in the afternoon, we enjoyed a coffee at “Ombak Café & Huts.”
In the evening, we went to “Warung Makan Kevin.” It was as great as always, although it took a bit longer – so it’s better not to go too hungry. Luckily, I had also packed the playing cards, so it wasn’t boring.
By Friday, our last day had arrived, and we decided to take a surfing break. In the morning, we went to “Jungle Bakery” for a coffee and a croissant, followed by another morning walk – we had to make the most of it while we could. After packing, we looked for an ATM (that accepted our card), which was not easy there, but on the other side of the island, we finally found one. Next, we went to “The General” to have another coffee – you have to try out all the nice cafés.
Before the ferry took us back to our (hopefully still waiting) moped in Sanur, we took one last dip in the kitschy turquoise sea. Then we headed back to Bali with only a half-hour delay. Nusa Lembongan was truly a paradise for me – simply a vacation within a vacation!
